HAL_UART_Read

I am connecting a STM32F411E with the DJI M30T through E-port. I have modified the pin config in the code, and chip frequency. When debugging, I noticed that the HAL_UART_Read function never gets called, so the payload never reads the incoming data from the drone. COMMUNICATION_UART_NUM is set correctly. Please advise, thank you.
