Real-time Telemetry Data Extraction for Firefighting Support Software

Hello DJI Community and Support Team, I’m developing software to assist firefighters in real-time rescue operations, specifically to help with locating and positioning individuals in emergency situations. To make this system effective, I need to access certain real-time telemetry data directly from DJI drones, including: GPS coordinates Altitude Drone and gimbal direction Gimbal angle I’m hoping for a straightforward method to extract this information in real-time without having to build an entirely new application. Ideally, I’m looking for a solution compatible across DJI’s range, from Mini series to more professional models, to ensure maximum flexibility in the field. A simple overlay of these data points on the video feed (e.g., over RTMP stream) would be perfect. Is there a feasible way to achieve this with existing tools or APIs? Any assistance or guidance from DJI Support on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    We are glad that you have chosen DJI drones. Based on the situation you described, there may not be a one-size-fits-all solution for all drones. Below is an explanation of the different types. 1. Drones that support secondary development. Secondary development allows for real-time access to the drone's location and altitude, as well as the gimbal's angle. You can check the official website to see which drones currently support secondary development. Currently, the enterprise series drones make up a larger proportion:https://developer.dji.com/ 2. Drones that use Pilot or Pilot 2. Some of these drones also support secondary development, but the live streaming provided by this software often includes the drone's location information. 3. Drones that use DJI FLY. This category includes the Mini series, most of which do not support secondary development. At present, I have not found information on whether the software's live streaming includes location information.

    I have a similar desire - real-time GPS location for Public Safety.   

    Unfortunately, if you try and search the DJI Developer site for 'secondary development', you get nothing helpful.   

    I've tried the CloudSDK but apparently that requires you to completely take over the flying of the drone, as you can't have both the Cloud page up and the Flight controller.

    For the  MobileSDK, I see the list of supported drones - is it accurate to say that all MobileSDK supported drones will allow me to capture real-time GPS data?

    Yes, the drones supported by the Mobile SDK are capable of obtaining location information in real-time.

    Exactly. But for example, by using the DJI Mini 3 with the Mobile SDK, am I able to write an application that, while using DJI FLY, will simultaneously collect telemetry data in the background? From what I've read, it's not possible to use two applications that have access to the drone at the same time. What do you think?

    Currently, it is not possible to run both apps simultaneously. For safety reasons, running two apps at the same time may result in the aircraft receiving multiple commands from different sources, which could lead to conflicts. At present, only one software is supported for communication with the drone.

    It’s too bad there’s no access to the DJI Fly app code. Then, you could just add your own feature as an overlay and be sure nothing would get messed up with the drone.

    I understand that if the official app supports secondary development, it would save a lot of time. However, we have not yet received any corresponding plans, and we also need to take into account the implications of secondary development as well as the security of user data.
